Perrigo met its goal of being market-ready when Schering-Plough's exclusivity expired Oct. 6 for the OTC laxative MiraLAX. The private labeler immediately started shipping its polyethylene glycol powder after FDA approved its abbreviated new drug application for the product indicated for treatment of occasional constipation.
"The Tan Sheet" reported here that Allegan, Mich.-based Perrigo planned to be market-ready when Schering's exclusivity for MiraLAX expired. Perrigo is the first to launch a store brand of MiraLAX, which had sales of $200 million for the 12 months ending Aug. 28, 2009, according to the firm's release.
The private label leader has ANDAs pending for generics of Reckitt Benckiser's Mucinex decongestant and Johnson & Johnson's Monistat vaginal infection product.
Executives with the private label leader, in this recent report in "The Tan Sheet," said in addition to gaining market share in categories the firm already competes in, they continue to look at product launches in new product categories, largely through acquisitions, as a growth strategy.
